Underground Utilities
Installation and rehabilitation of water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and communication infrastructure.
Scope of Work
Our underground utility crews install and rehabilitate water distribution, sanitary sewer collection, storm drainage, and dry utility systems. We maintain City of Chicago drainlayer licensing and operate crews experienced in both open-cut and trenchless installation methods.
Work includes coordination with utility owners, traffic control management, and restoration of pavement and landscaping to pre-construction conditions. Our project managers maintain communication with engineers and inspectors throughout installation to address field conditions.
Typical Project Types
- Municipal water main installation and replacement
- Sanitary sewer system construction
- Storm sewer and drainage networks
- Force main installation for lift stations
- Combined sewer separation projects
- Utility relocations for roadway projects
- Site utility installation for commercial development
Safety and Compliance Considerations
All excavations follow OSHA requirements for protective systems including trench boxes, shoring, and sloping. Competent persons conduct daily inspections before crew entry. Confined space protocols govern all manhole and vault access.
JULIE utility location requests are submitted with required notice periods. Private utility locating is conducted on all sites. Vacuum excavation is employed for exploratory excavations near existing utilities.
Traffic control plans are developed in accordance with MUTCD and local agency requirements. Certified flaggers and advance warning signage protect work zones on active roadways.
