Project Manager

Position Overview

Northwest General Contractors seeks an experienced Project Manager to oversee heavy civil construction projects including mass earthwork, underground utilities, stormwater management, and site development. This position requires field presence, direct communication with clients and engineers, and accountability for schedule and budget performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage multiple concurrent projects from award through closeout
• Coordinate field operations including crew assignments, equipment scheduling, and material procurement
• Communicate with clients, engineers, and inspectors regarding project status and field conditions
• Review plans and specifications to identify conflicts and prepare RFIs
• Prepare and submit progress reports, schedule updates, and change order documentation
• Enforce safety protocols and conduct site safety inspections
• Manage subcontractor coordination and performance
• Monitor project costs and identify budget variances
• Resolve field issues and maintain project schedules
• Coordinate utility locating and traffic control requirements

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of project management experience in heavy civil construction
• Direct experience with earthwork, underground utilities, or site development
• Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans and specifications
• Working knowledge of construction safety regulations including OSHA requirements
• Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with municipal or public agency projects
• Familiarity with DBE/MBE compliance requirements
• OSHA 30-hour construction certification
• Knowledge of Illinois municipal codes and IDOT specifications
• Experience with GPS-guided grading equipment

Travel Requirements

Daily travel to job sites throughout the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding Illinois counties. Projects are typically within a 50-mile radius of the Glen Ellyn office. Occasional overnight travel may be required for projects outside the immediate region.

License Requirements

Valid Illinois driver's license required. Professional engineering license not required but candidates with PE or EIT certification are encouraged to apply.
